Johnelle Simpson uses his personal story to showcase how passion and hard work can lead to success as a leader. Simpson believes that adversity and life's unfortunate events should be used as fuel on the road to success. Simpson, a first-generation college student, graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in Risk Management & Insurance and Political Science and the University of Tennessee College of Law with his Doctor of Jurisprudence. From the small town of Donalsonville, Georgia, Simpson used his small town friendliness to lead him to the highest student leadership position, Student Body President, during his time at the University of Georgia. While at the University of Tennessee College of Law, he served as President of the Student Bar Association, founded the student wellness committee, was appointed by the Chancellor to serve as a member of the University of Tennessee Campus Advisory Board, and was named Outstanding Graduate/Professional Student of the Year.
Prior to his legal career, Simpson worked in education building internships and apprenticeships. Simpson's work connected businesses in the Athens-Clarke County, Georgia area with high school students to promote workforce, community, and economic development. The programming efforts provided by Simpson provided youth with career, life, leadership, and employability skills necessary for a successful future. The partnerships allowed youth to bridge the gap between high school and postsecondary/workforce opportunities.
In the community, Simpson serves as President of the Georgia Hugh O' Brian Youth Leadership Corporate Board. Simpson also serves on the boards of the Athens Land Trust, the Georgia 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees, United Way of Northeast Georgia, and Lydia's Place.
